In Doug’s classic, best-selling book, ‘Old Turtle and the Broken Truth,’ he begins with these words:
Once…
in a beautiful, far-away land
That was, somehow, not so very far…
A land where every stone was a teacher
and every breeza a language,
where every lake was a mirror
and every tree a ladder to the stars…
This is the land–the natural world– we are born into. And it is indeed ‘not so very far away.’ But with the passing of years–becoming burdened by losses, fears, wounds, world-weariness, and just pure ‘busy-ness’–we can begin to lose track of it. Lose touch with it. Douglas Wood’s Forest Therapy retreats provide the opportunity to reconnect. To recharge. To find ourselves once more in a ‘beautiful land’ filled with meaning and wisdom.
Through…
Gentle guidance and woodland expertise
Nature journaling
Stillness meditation
Walking meditation
Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing)
Nature study/identification/interpretation
Metaphorical thinking
Myths, legends, stories
Mindfulness techniques
Music and artistic expression
Worldwide traditions and philosophies
Private, personal time
Group sharing/bonding time
and more…
