A PEACEFUL AND QUIET early spring evening

A PEACEFUL AND QUIET early spring evening at the old cabin under the big pines. With the sun spreading gold over the far shore. Quiet, except for last year’s young eagle attempting to barge into the old, familiar nest tree. With much screaming and flapping of wings and similar commotion as the parents/proprietors, busy housekeeping for a new family, attempted to convince Junior this was NOT his tree anymore! Oh, and except for the Canada geese gabbling and honking and blaring up and down the river, establishing claims of their own. And except for the constant whistling of duck wings over the just opened-up water. And except for the Trumpeter Swans trumpeting. And except for Sparky the Cardinal singing his head off from the tallest tree. And except for the robins, just returned to old haunts and singing their evening ‘Cheer-io! Cheer-io!’ Yeah, except for all that, it’s very quiet.
