AFTER A LOVELY ‘Writers in the Woods’ workshop

AFTER A LOVELY ‘Writers in the Woods’ workshop, five Road Schooar trips, an ‘Island Inspirations’ music and art retreat, and two Forest Therapy gatherings over the last few months, it is good to be home. Back to the cabin under the pines. Where the trees reach for the sky, the river flows gently by, and golden pine needles cover the ground. It is good be where one can smell air the way it is meant to smell, where none of our wild neighbors are fascists or idiots, and where bad news sometimes seems far away.
It’s not, of course. But the river whispers timeless things, and so do the trees, and that helps provide a sense of perspective, and an abiding beauty.
I love all my trips and retreats, and I love the wonderful people I encounter and get to know, sharing with them my joy in discovering the stories and landscapes of wild things. And soon I will be looking forward to new adventures in the months to come. But for now, it is good to be home, to walk under our own trees, to listen to our own birds, to smell the fragrance of our own pine-scented air.
