BLUE-SKY, warm-wind Earth day

ON THIS BLUE-SKY, warm-wind Earth day, I wish you beauty. I wish you the secret space between two pines, there to wander through and discover a new world. Perhaps to discover the very first bloodroot blossom of spring, or the very last scarlet cup of late winter. The shiny rabbit-ear leaves of the early wild leeks, or the tender, spotted foliage of Virgina waterleaf, or the delicate trout lily. Maybe you’ll find the soft, fuzzy wild ginger, just peeking out of the forest duff.
You might hear the warm, liquid warbling of a ruby-crowned kinglet, the high, repetitive whistle of the pine warbler, or catch the quick flash of the yellow-rump. All returning from their winter journeys. It is a grand day in a grand time of year. And here at the Church O’ The Pines grove, we wish you beauty, wherever you may be.
This evening I’ll be doing an Earth Day concert at St. John’s University. 7pm, Pellgrene Auditorium. There may even be a little beauty left over.
