FOLLOWING A GRAND sunset on the shore
FOLLOWING A GRAND sunset on the shore of Gitchi-gami, our Road Scholars awoke to a drizzly morn. The drive to Ely remained foggy and misty, and with arrival at Sigurd Olson’s Listening Point the thunderstorms and torrential rains began to roll through with a vengeance. But we enjoyed the old cabin and the writing shack, with stories and mandolin music and the sweet sound of Prudence Johnson’s voice. Then more squalls and downpours, over 7 inches in all we are told. A canoe outing had to be cancelled, and a hike to a waterfall as well (the trail now become a river). But visits to the Interfational Wolf Center and North American Bear Center brightened spirits, along with a couple of good meals, and tomorrow we wend our way (perhaps with a couple of road closure detours) to Voyageurs National Park, and more adventure!
