LIFE IS COMPLICATED

LIFE IS COMPLICATED. And there are many motivations to get us up and out of bed in the morning, doing whatever things we do, making whatever choices we make. For many the motivation is simply to do a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay. To take care of one’s family and loved ones. For some it is to help others, to help a cause, to make a contribution to the world, no matter how small. Some just want to have fun, to pursue as many pleasures as they can get, as fast as they can get them. While for others—for many—it is the naked pursuit of power and influence, of fame and wealth and personal advantage.
But for some of us it is the simple desire, when looking into the mirror at the end of day, to like the person we see there. Or at least, not to feel ashamed of them. One wonders, during these complicated times, if that is a terribly old-fashioned way of looking at things.
