Lyrics to ‘Higher Ground,’ from the Solitary Shores CD
THERE HAVE BEEN REQUESTS that I share more about my music on my FB page. I am also going to be learning more about sharing digitally in this new media world. As many may know, I began as a musician before all the books came along. I still love performing with my old friend Steve Borgstrom and my son Bryan Wood. And the music—most of it nature themed—still stands up pretty well. The CD, Deep Woods, Deep Waters once sold 100,000 copies. So there will be more news to come. For now, here are the lyrics to ‘Higher Ground,’ from the Solitary Shores CD (available at douglaswood.com)
Wind, lover of the pines
Speak to me of the times
Times this land has known
That lie within her like a secret seed
Dreams, tonight I must have dreams
Of mystical, magical scenes
Of open fires, open skies
Starry eyes like mine
‘Cause something tells me,
Listen. Listen to the land
And know that she is not ours
But we are hers
And look. Look beyond yourself
To higher ground, to higher ground
And run. Take the torch
And race against the wind
Into the sun
And dance. Turning to the tempo of the stars.
Earth, changeless changing Earth
Fountain of infinite birth
Whisper to my heart of all you know
Help me understand
Sky, stretching forever sky
For a million years we could not fly
Now we have conquered you
But can we conquer man
And understand
Listen. Listen to the land
And know that she is not ours
But we are hers….
