Marvelous series of trees

THERE IS A PATH I know that leads to the most marvelous series of trees. Northern White Cedar, Arborvitae. Their roots stretch and reach over bedrock—anchoring, holding fast to the earth. To life. I know other paths, many of them, that lead to shadowed haunts and streams of sunlight.
A great many people are hurting right now, burdened by doubts and fears and anxieties. I’m familiar. I share them. Sometimes we wonder if our roots will hold, or where the path will lead. I know only that, as always, there is a path before us and it is our task and our joy to walk it, shaking off the doubts and the what-ifs and traveling toward the light. And believing that whatever the storms, our roots will hold.
‘A single sunbeam is enough to drive away any shadows.’ Saint Francis of Assisi
‘Most of the shadows in this life are caused by standing in one’s own sunshine.’ Ralph Waldo Emerson
