Old Man River

Old Man River

HERE AT THE CHURCH O’ THE PINES we sometimes feel we dwell in a refuge from a world in which one is assailed daily by dishonesties large and small. In which oaths are broken and verities assailed. Here truths abound. They sail through the air on feathered wings. They grow out of the earth and stretch their limbs toward heaven. They tumble in the grass and float by on Old Man River. And in living close to simple truths and honest growing things, we almost have the feeling of absorbing a bit of them ourselves. And we attempt to reach toward heaven just a tiny bit taller. Walk the earth with a gentler step. Smell a blossom with wee bit more appreciation. Feel a part of green and growing life, and all of its good tidings. Perhaps it is only illusion, for we humans have great trouble with such humble, simple tasks. But it is a good feeling to have, especially while in Church. Wherever you may find such truths and such feelings, we wish you Good Sabbath.
