The great cathedrals of the world

AT THE CHURCH O’ THE PINES we hug to ourselves the belief that our soaring tree trunks, green lofts and sanctuaries, are akin to the great cathedrals of the world. Similar in their aspirational nature and design. Such structures, throughout history, were built to lift hearts toward the heavens, and souls toward the highest of human values. Unfortunately, that is not how many ‘religious’ church-goers in our country view things at this time. They aspire toward nothing more than to hurt those who ‘need’ to be hurt. To punish those who ‘need’ to be punished. To ostracize those who ‘deserve’ to be ostracized. To deport those who ‘need’ to be deported. To ‘cleanse’ the religious body of ‘vermin’ and those who infect the blood of the good and the true and the pure.
Well. That’s not how it is at the Church O’ The Pines. Where the red squirrel shares holy water with the blue jay and the deer. Where there is always plenty of food in Fellowship Hall for all to share. Where the pines still soar to the sky and the lofts ring with the sounds of the humble choir. Where the altar of the earth is welcoming to all. And… it is not how it is, or ever will be, in any church or religion that has ever deserved the name.
We wish you Good Sabbath.
