THIS IS AN ANCIENT Limber Pine

THIS IS AN ANCIENT Limber Pine, perhaps 3,000 years of age. Perhaps the oldest tree in all of Canada. The glorious photo was taken by my son, Bryan, on a pilgrimage to the Canadian Rockies, far off the beaten path. The image speaks deeply to me, as he knew it would… Here is a being rooted in the high ground of reality. It knows nothing of foolishness or deceit, ignorance or hate. It knows the sunshine and the wind, the darkness and the light, the sun and moon and the stars at night. In its honesty and strength, and in its twisted sculpture of endurance, it seems to know all that is worth knowing about life. And, as all great trees do, it somehow stands as a symbol of all of that. Of what is real and what is right. And as a symbol of things beyond the reach of words.
