HERE AT THE CABIN-IN-THE-WOODS
HERE AT THE CABIN-IN-THE-WOODS, we are prevented by exigent circumstances from following the national news on a minute-by-minute or even hourly basis. Or sometimes even daily. These circumstances involve the feeding of birds (and sometimes deer and raccoons while also trying to prevent the deer and raccoons from getting into stuff we don’t want them getting into and… well, nevermind). And also battling buckthorn and nettles and chainsawing deadfalls and going for walks to benefit the lower back and… well, nevermind again.
Anyway, we do not keep track of every settling or unsettling news item beyond our woods. But we admire and appreciate those who do! Like Heather Cox Richardson and Robert Reich. And we see today that the Creature in the White House is encountering difficulty. And some say a sea-change may be underway. Well, we’ve seen the sea change–or rather, not change–many times before, and here in the woods we remain skeptical. The raccoons seem skeptical as well. But according to Mr. Reich and others, a long string of significant setbacks has lately afflicted the Creature.
To wit: The House has voted to direct him to withdraw forces from Iran or win congressional approval. His claim to have ‘destroyed’ Iran’s missiles and drones has been belied by a massive attack on Kuwait. Iran still controls the Strait of Hormuz. They do not seem interested in making ‘a deal.’ (With the greatest deal-maker in the world.)
Senate Republicans (Fascist Party of America) are showing signs of the tiniest, fossilized, vestigial spine beginning to grow–remarkable!–in forcing the Creature to abandon his $1 billion request for his gilded ballroom.
His $1.8 billion slush fund also appears dead, as Republicans–even the astonishingly spineless Lindsey Graham–are pushing back.
The Creature’s name has been ordered by a federal judge to be taken off the Kennedy Center (this is one of my favorites!) and no FPA members came to his defense!!!
His endorsed candidate in Iowa lost the primary.
Entertainers and headliners right and left are refusing/abandoning the ‘opportunity’ to perform at the Creature’s 250th self-congratulatory party. So he will be the ‘entertainer’ headliner for 4 hours himself. How cool is that?!! (Yeah, that was sarcastic.)
His sycophantic nominee for Director of National Intelligence has won even Mitch McConnell’s anti-endorsement.
And there’s more but my two fingers are getting tired. Suffice to say the Creature is having some hard times. Sea-change? Who knows? But as with his UFC championship on the White House lawn (also not going well but the perfect metaphor for galactic stupidity) it is always fun to cheer against the moron/idiot/bad guy.
Now, back to the deer and the buckthorn…
