LAST MARCH, a frightened, freezing, injured little waif

LAST MARCH, a frightened, freezing, injured little waif. Now, a Prince on his throne. UPDATE on Paddy, and Kathy! …. Paddy continues to discover his true personality, as do we. After a trip to the Pet Hospital 2 weeks ago (slight eye infection) in which I cuddled and ‘protected’ him against the vet, I have been suddenly and completely accepted as an object of love and affection, just as much as Kathy! Almost.
Mealtimes are a grand adventure. When the tummy button goes off, Paddy races around the house, skidding on the kitchen linoleum, trilling and chirping, until we notice. Then a can is opened, and a strange procession ensues, with Paddy leading the way to the other room where food is served—prancing just ahead of the servant’s feet, spinning and pirouetting several times to make sure we are following and haven’t forgotten the way. Then, before eating and even though he is obviously STARVING—a wonderful gesture. Turning away from his dish and rising up on his hind feet, Paddy wraps his arms around a leg and gives a hug. So sweet and touching! How he learned this or figured it out we have no idea. But it certainly melts the heart.
Update on Kathy: After her midnight ambulance ride a couple weeks ago for a painful bowel obstruction, Kathy is doing just fine. Being a little more careful about what she eats, she is back to normal, still regaining strength and stamina from this year’s ordeals. She has a foot which occasionally goes numb that we are trying to figure out, and she still must rest or nap a little more than she used to. Almost always with a white, furry comforter on her lap. And all is well.
