WHEN I DID a literary tour of China

WHEN I DID a literary tour of China several years ago, my kind and generous hosts (King-in Publishing) gave me a lovely gift—well, more than one—as mementos of that special time. The other day I was puttering absentmindedly through my Winnie-the-Pooh books. And as I puttered, I found this beautiful silk scarf, which Mr. Ao and Lucia had presented to me on the tour. They had sifted carefully through my books and writings and found consistent themes, things that I seemed to emphasize again and again. And had them printed on the scarf.
Why it had gotten tucked away with Pooh, I don’t know—except that it seemed a safe and happy place for it. So I took out the scarf and looked at it. For a long time. And I thought… that’s what I write about. That’s what’s important to me. That’s who I am. Good things to notice. Good things to remember.
