Little Waif Paddy and Koda

YESTERDAY, in a post about Kathy Ann’s family quilts, I happened to catch a photo of our little waif Paddy curled up for a nap. Many of you have followed the tale of Paddy, who showed up the day after last year’s St. Patrick’s Day. Cold, frightened and starving. A tentative, mutual adoption followed. And now Paddy is doing very well indeed. Happy and safe and Kathy’s little white shadow. But…
We already had a kitty. Koda-the-Forest-Ktten, my little buddy, who had also arrived as a lost orphan three years before, crying to me out of the woods one sleety, snowy, windy night. When I answered, saying, ‘Well who’s that?’ A tiny coal black kitten came out of the dark and curled himself around my ankle. It was love at first sight. I was helpless. I was adopted. And so was the kitten. So he became Koda—a Dakota word meaning dear friend, friend of the heart. As he has been ever since.
So with yesterday’s post, some ‘campfire friends’ inquired about Koda. Koda-the-Forest-Kitten. He is fine. He is well. He is beautiful. And still my little buddy. (But not so tiny anymore!) Are he and Paddy best buds? Ummm, well, no. Each is a bit jealous of the other. But we are patient and determined, and we are getting there. And these days, when times are rough and things are a bit scary, it is a true blessing to have these two beautiful little beings, who love us unconditionally, sharing our lives here at the cabin-in-the-woods.
So, for those needing a Koda ‘fix,’ here ya go. Koda says, ‘Hi, gang!’
